Memory is neither fixed nor linear; it is a landscape continually reshaped by identity, place, and lived experience. Through painting and mixed media, Asmar Atham translates these shifting terrains into evocative visual narratives that reflect the cultural, social, and emotional landscapes of Sri Lanka.
Solo exhibition by Asmar Atham Marutha Osai (மருத ஓசை), translated as "Echoes of the Fertile Land," draws inspiration from the ancient Tamil concept of Marutham one of the five classical landscapes in Sangam literature, symbolizing fertile agricultural land, flowing water, cultivation, and rural life. More than a physical place, Marutham embodies a way of life shaped by the enduring relationship between people, the land, and nature.
Through this body of work, the artist reflects on the changing realities of Sri Lanka's agrarian landscape, where the richness of cultivation coexists with climate uncertainty, environmental degradation, economic hardship, and human wildlife conflict.

Recurring motifs of paddy fields, migratory birds, elephants, waterways, and the traces of agricultural labor become visual metaphors for resilience, memory, coexistence, and ecological interconnectedness.
