Radicle Gallery was founded by Mahesh Alkegama and Nishi Wariyapola Alkegama with a shared vision of creating a space where contemporary art can be experienced, questioned, and discussed. More than an exhibition space, the gallery is a platform for artists, ideas, and conversations that contribute to the evolving discourse of contemporary art in Sri Lanka and the wider South Asian region.

Representing both established and emerging artists, Radicle Gallery presents a dynamic programme of exhibitions that embraces artistic experimentation, material exploration, and diverse contemporary practices. The gallery is committed to creating meaningful connections between artists, audiences, collectors, researchers, and cultural institutions, with the belief that exhibitions can inspire dialogue, challenge perspectives, and deepen our understanding of the world around us.

At the heart of Radicle Gallery is a commitment to nurturing a vibrant contemporary art community. Alongside its exhibitions, the gallery develops artist talks, workshops, educational initiatives, and public programmes that encourage learning, collaboration, and creative exchange. These initiatives create opportunities for artists and audiences to engage with contemporary art in ways that extend beyond the gallery walls, making art more accessible while fostering thoughtful cultural dialogue.

Recognising the importance of sustained support for early-career artists, Radicle Gallery established the Emerging Collective, a platform dedicated to nurturing the next generation of creative voices. Through exhibitions, mentorship, curatorial guidance, workshops, and collaborative projects, the initiative provides emerging artists with opportunities to experiment, refine their practices, and build sustainable careers within the contemporary art landscape.

  • Committed to fostering a more inclusive arts ecosystem, the founders also established the Chatham Art Foundation to expand opportunities for women artists while remaining open to artists from diverse backgrounds. Through exhibitions, research, mentorship, grants, professional development, and regional collaborations, the foundation promotes equity, artistic excellence, and meaningful cultural exchange, strengthening connections between Sri Lankan artists and the wider South Asian and international art communities.

Together, Radicle Gallery, the Emerging Collective, and the Chatham Art Foundation form an interconnected platform dedicated to advancing contemporary art through exhibitions, research, education, artist development, and cross-cultural collaboration. By championing innovative artistic practices, supporting emerging talent, and building meaningful regional and international partnerships, the three initiatives continue to expand opportunities for artists while strengthening the visibility of Sri Lankan contemporary art within the global art landscape.

Rooted in the belief that contemporary art can spark dialogue, cultivate empathy, and imagine new possibilities, Radicle Gallery remains committed to creating a space where artists and ideas continue to grow, connect, and inspire.
